Pre-arrange Shuttle Services: One option is to pre-arrange a shuttle with your cruise line. This is a great way to ensure a hassle-free experience, particularly if you’re arriving on the same day as your cruise departure.
Public Shuttle: Alternatively, you can take advantage of the Fort Lauderdale Airport Shuttle, which offers daily shuttle services to the Port of Miami (as well as other airports such as MIA and PBI International Airports). This affordable shuttle runs every 5 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic and passenger demand, and requires a reservation at least 24 hours in advance. Prices vary depending on the designated vehicle and number of passengers.
Public Transit: If you prefer to use public transportation, there are a few options available. The Tri-Rail runs from the airport to the Metrorail Transfer Station. From there, take the Metrorail Green Line to Brickell Station, then hop on the free Miami Trolley to PortMiami. Although this option may be more complex than arranging a shuttle or taking a taxi, it can be a more affordable option.
Rideshare Services: If you’re short on time, taxi services are readily available from FLL, as well as popular ridesharing apps such as Uber and Lyft. Rideshare pick-ups are located on the arrivals level of the airport.
Port of Miami Parking
Parking your car at Port Miami for a cruise is a convenient option for those who prefer to drive themselves to the port. Designated disabled permit parking spaces are available at each garage, and spaces are also available for oversized vehicles at special rates.
On cruise days, all garages and Lot #2 are open and manned by a parking attendant from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Garage J is pre-paid only, and passengers pay upon arrival and are given a decal to post in their vehicle for the duration of their cruise.
Rates for parking vary depending on the length of your cruise. For Royal Caribbean sailings of 6 days or more, the rate is $25 per night, and for sailings of 5 nights or less, the rate is $28 per night. Day visitor rates are $10 for the day. Other garages and lots have a short-term rate of $8 per day or a long-term rate of $22 per day.
If you’re looking for a more cost-effective option, off-site cruise parking is also available in the area. Many private parking facilities and hotels near the port offer parking at a lower cost, and some even include a complimentary shuttle service to and from the port. These off-site options can save you over $15 per day in parking costs and can help alleviate the stress of finding a parking spot in a busy lot.

Renting a Car in Miami
The most important thing you should know is that in Florida the transportation system is lacking, so it is highly recommended to rent a car in Miami to explore the city. It will save you time and will make your time in this sunshine city more enjoyable. The good thing is that you can put your luggage in your trunk and enjoy the beach, the Everglades, or the malls without worry.
While it is often suggested to either take the Airport Flyer, which is a shuttle between South Beach and Miami Airport or using a rideshare app, we recommend renting a car. It is not as expensive, gives you the freedom to move around the city, and provides a safe place to leave your luggage.
Explore South Beach
South Beach is a must-see destination in Miami. It is the perfect place to walk around, visit some shops, grab a bite, and even swim in the Atlantic Ocean. The iconic Ocean Drive has some of the most unique architecture in the city and reminds us of the resort-style architecture from the 1920s and 1930s.
Take the South Beach Local Trolley that takes you around South Beach, walk down Lincoln Road Mall and Ocean Drive, and visit the 8th Magic Mountain in Miami Beach. Another cool street to visit in South Beach is La Española Way. It is Miami’s Historic Spanish Village, founded in the 1920s, and when you visit this cute and unique street in Miami Beach, you feel like you travel to a Mediterranean village in Spain or France.
Visit the Holocaust Memorial
The Holocaust Memorial is a powerful and unique way to experience Miami. The memorial is about a 10-minute drive from South Beach, and it is free to enter. The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach is open daily from 9:30 AM to sunset.
Take an Everglades Tour
The Everglades are a little bit far from Miami, and you will definitely need to rent a car at the Miami airport to visit. Our favorite tour company is the Everglades Holiday Park, which is almost an hour drive from MIA. The 60-minute tour takes you on an airboat to see wild alligators and includes an alligator presentation and a one kodak group photo. The park is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Visit Brickell or Downtown
When exploring downtown Miami, make sure to visit the Bayside Marketplace, which is an outdoor shopping center with a beautiful waterfront view of the Biscayne Bay. Another must-see destination is the Wynwood Art Walk. It is a free public area where many graffiti murals are displayed for that perfect Instagram photo! The entire Wynwood neighborhood is really fun and hip, and it’s surrounded by restaurants, boutique stores, and unique frozen popsicle stands.
Explore Coconut Grove
Stroll through the eclectic neighborhood of Coconut Grove. As you make your way into this laid-back neighborhood, you will be met with charming boutiques, endless cafes, art galleries, and sailboats docked nearby. It is the best place to sit back and enjoy a cool drink.
Visit Coral Gables
Go for a drive through Coral Gables to see the beautiful works of architecture as you drive down the streets. There are many historic homes dotting the streets with many beautifully designed green parks.
